Clinical Psycho-Oncology Service
Many people find the process of going through cancer treatment emotionally challenging. Sometimes feelings may become more difficult to deal with on your own and this might be when you want to ask for some extra help. You may want to talk to someone separate from your family, your medical team or your specialist nurse and this is an option.
The Clinical Psycho-Oncology Service based in Bexley Wing, provides a service for people who are having treatment for cancer. The team is made up of Clinical Psychologists and Liaison Psychiatrists. They usually see you in their outpatient clinic on Level 1 Bexley Wing to discuss how you are feeling about your situation. However, if you are an inpatient they could also see you on the ward. They will want to hear about your experiences and discuss what kind of help you might need. Sometimes this can be specific strategies to help you get through a difficult situation and sometimes this might be a space to talk about your feelings. The person who you meet from the team can talk to you more about the options available.
If you feel that you (or a member of your family) would benefit from this kind of help, please discuss this with either your doctor, nurse or other member of your medical team who can assess whether this service is appropriate for you and then help to organise a referral.
